Background:

Australian, Asian and European manufacturers tend to use different antifreeze / coolant formulas in new vehicles. This causes confusion among drivers and repairers – many just don’t know which aftermarket antifreeze / coolant is right for their vehicle. Prestone antifreeze / coolant is compatible with all these vehicles and formulas.

Prestone has been tested with antifreeze / coolant formulations that are factory filled by major car, van, pick up and light-duty truck manufacturers. It may be added to the antifreeze / coolant of any make or model automotive or light duty truck on the road.

Temperature Protection:

Ethylene glycol is the main component of modern antifreeze / coolant.
Ethylene glycol not only lowers the freezing point of water but also raises its boiling point – these properties enable vehicle cooling systems to operate in below freezing conditions but also enable engines to operate at higher temperatures while still avoiding potential engine damage.
Prestone Concentrate Antifreeze / Coolant has a 934ml / 1080g per 1000ml   (93.4%) ethylene glycol content.
Temperature Protection up to -65C to 135C

Corrosion Protection:

All antifreeze / coolant should include corrosion inhibitors to protect metal parts in the cooling system.  As there are a number of different metals and alloys in the cooling system it is important that the correct range of inhibitors are blended with the antifreeze / coolant to give total protection.

The science is getting the inhibitors to achieve the correct protection without reducing the ethylene glycol content below 90%.  A number of antifreeze / coolant brands cannot achieve the correct ratio of ethylene glycol and inhibitors.

Cor – Guard Inhibitors:

Prestone Cor-Guard is the biggest development in coolant technology in the last 20 or so years.

To obtain extended life corrosion  protection most antifreeze / coolant manufacturers now use an OAT (Organic Acid Technology) inhibitor pack. Whilst this extends the life of the antifreeze / coolant there is also a disadvantage to this technology. OAT inhibitors by themselves can take up to 6,000km – 10,000km before they start protecting the metals in the cooling system.

Prestone Cor-Guard antifreeze / coolant starts protecting immediately.   From the first circulation through the cooling system all metals are protected.

Colour:

Colour – Yellow but looks green in radiator
The yellow colour allows Prestone to be mixed with any other colour antifreeze / coolant without changing the original fluid colour
Green and red dye kits are available if a specific colour is required. This enables the workshop to hold one colour of antifreeze / coolant to cover both green and red flush n fill requirement – 5ml will colour 10L of fluid.
  
The yellow colour of Prestone allows for visual inspection of oil contaminates, scale and rust in header tanks and in discarded antifreeze / coolant to assist with identifying cooling system problems.

Prestone antifreeze / coolant also includes a fluorescein dye that is visible under a black or ultraviolet light.  This dye leaves a residue even when dry that enables easy identification of cooling system leaks or seepage.
